Call of Duty: Modern Warfare – Review

Call of Duty is back, and what a comeback it is. The latest entry in the franchise is developed by Infinity Ward and is a reboot of the Modern Warfare series. This is a more darker telling of recent events and how modern warfare plays out in today’s world. You play as CIA agents, SAS operatives, and even a militant leader in a war ravaged region.

The campaign is an action packed ride, that takes you across the globe across various conflicts. there are some really spectacular missions in the campaign, and it is absolutely worth playing. It’s a bit short – around 5 to 6 hours – but is a tight package that never overstays it’s welcome.

The multiplayer is also a tight package with a ton of new maps and a few new modes. The progression and leveling up is a lot more satisfying in the absence of loot boxes. The new mode – Ground War – is a massive map with 64 players battling for domination. It’s a fun replacement for what the Battlefield series has to offer. The more grounded gameplay style is what I loved about the original Modern Warfare games, and I am so happy to see that make a comeback.

The co-op missions are also a fun blast – you have 4 challenging missions, where you need to slowly trudge forward clearing objectives and fighting off enemies. It can get really tough, especially near the end of each mission, and communication is really important. Overall this is great addition, and a ton of fun to play with up to three other people.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare looks absolutely stunning, with some section in the campaign looking near photo-realistic. The lighting and the sound design is exceptional. Th guns are loud and uncomfortable in a way that adds a lot of weight to the shooting.

There are some issues though – on PC the cut-scenes have a lot of stutter, and it can sometimes get hard to follow the story. There are also some minor hitches during the multiplayer, which is odd, given how optimized the game feels otherwise.

Pros:

  • Fantastic Campaign
  • Great Multiplayer, New Ground War Mode Feels EPIC
  • Looks Amazing
  • Incredible Sound Design
  • No Lootboxes

Cons:

  • Stutter During Cut-scenes
  • Campaign Is Short

Score – 9/10
