Flotsam – Review (Early Access)

Flotsam is a pleasant little building and survival game by the folks at Pajama Llama Games. You are in charge of a a group of people as they try to survive off of garbage strewn about on the ocean. You pick up scrap and start building. You are given access to a large number of things to build, all of which use various resources. You need to make choices between prioritizing food, water, rest for the crew etc. There’s a good bit of depth here, and as you slowly start expanding your floating town, you are given access to more tools. The game looks and sounds amazing as well – there’s a real charm here that I really enjoyed. My only complain is the lack of content. You can be done with everything there is to do in the game in about 5 hours.

  • Looks great
  • Fantastic concept and execution
  • Pleasant soundtrack
  • Fun to play

  • Lacks content

Score – 7/10

Manage your drifters as they try to survive in a harsh ocean world, where everything is trying to eat you or sink your town to the depths of the sea! You’ll need fresh water, seafood, and scrap to make sure your drifters can make the best of this wet situation.

Luckily the flooded environment offers all kinds of relics from the old world to recycle. Your drifters can transform garbage, driftwood, and flotsam into boats and buildings. These allow them to collect rainwater, hunt for various creatures, and reel up scrap from the ocean floor.

Steer your town as you explore a sprawling, dynamic environment with tall ruins, underwater cities, and coral reefs full of sea life and garbage! Raise your sails to choose which obstacles to avoid and which to dismantle.
