Persona 5 Royal takes everything that made Persona 5 such a phenomenal game and adds to it to make an even more complete package that is great for both newcomers and players who’ve played the original release.
- Lots of QOL fixes
- Good new characters
- Fantastic story
- Tons of content
- A few jarring additions
Score – 9/10
The game adds so many new features both big and small that really improves on the experience. The minor character interactions are great new additions that help add a bit of familiarity with characters that you will interact with later in the game. The changes and additions to the combat system is something that I didn’t know I wanted but is such a great change that rewards you even more for hanging out with your friends and building the relationship with them.
And the game is not just a retread of the original game. From the start, you can see the additions if you’ve played the base game. You’ll realize the new story beats and character interactions that have been added which work pretty well without changing the overall story or feel very much.
The only thing I’ve disliked about the game is a very minor and personal nitpick. I don’t like that they changed the VA for Tae Takemi for someone with a higher pitched voice (she does a good job but I’m spoiled by the deep and somewhat apathetic tone of the OG VA).
Other than that, the game is a masterpiece that makes it much easier for newcomers to get into and is much more beginner friendly. It is an absolute must played and I can’t get enough of this game.
