SOPA, the Stop Online Piracy Act isn’t going down easily with Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg. Mr. Facebook is pretty serious about the SOPA and PIPA implications and he understands that Internet as we know it today could be changed forever.
Zuckerberg hasn’t tweeted since March of 2009, almost three years ago! He joins Rupert Murdoch and many others to speak out about SOPA, which threatens our ability to post and share content on the internet.
The tweet links to a Facebook page about SOPA so there is no doubt how serious the situations is. If this SOPA and PIPA act is passed American Courts will have the power to control the internet and change it, dub it anyway they want it. Then? Other developing nations will follow to show their solitude to the super powerful Americans. Then every Government around the world will form their own version of this act and their own version of a safer Internet and it will not be pretty.
The internet is the most powerful tool we have for creating a more open and connected world. We can’t let poorly thought out laws get in the way of the internet’s development. Facebook opposes SOPA and PIPA, and we will continue to oppose any laws that will hurt the internet.
The world today needs political leaders who are pro-internet. We have been working with many of these folks for months on better alternatives to these current proposals. I encourage you to learn more about these issues and tell your congressmen that you want them to be pro-internet.
