“Electronic Arts’ BioWare this weekend officially unveiled “Mass Effect 3,” a new game that will launch in time for the 2011 holiday season on the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3, and the PC.
The game’s trailer, dubbed “Earth,” made its debut at the Spike Video Game Awards. “Mass Effect 3” marks the first time a game in the franchise will launch simultaneously on the three platforms.
“At BioWare, we are always driving ourselves to improve and I firmly believe our best work is still ahead of us,” Dr. Ray Muzyka, group general manager and co-founder of BioWare, said in a statement. “We could not be prouder of the team’s accomplishments with ‘Mass Effect 2,’ and are excited and humbled by all of the recognition the game has received so far. We can’t wait to show you what the team is doing to make ‘Mass Effect 3’ an even bigger success.”
Mass Effect” games take place in a science fiction universe filled with dangerous alien life and uncharted planets, and the third installment is “the pinnacle of Commander Shepard’s emotionally charged journey,” EA said.
“Mass Effect 2” was released earlier this year, and is now the highest rated videogame of 2010 on the Xbox 360 and PC, EA said. The game picked up “Best RPG” and “Best Xbox 360 Game” at the Spike Awards, while BioWare was named “Studio of the Year.”
